- Authors
BOUR, ISABELLE
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the book "Pride and Prejudice," by Jane Austen is presented. It explores the roles of authors Jane Austen, John Locke, and Samuel Richardson in fashioning the gentlemen of the eighteenth century. Civility, defined in the eighteenth century as elegance of behavior, is seen as the defining quality of gentlemen rather than politeness. Similarities among the works of these authors like focus on morals and manners, narrativity and epistolarity are also discussed.
