- Authors
Pickstock, Catherine
- Abstract
The article explores a seemingly anomaly of modern music taking into consideration the Catholicism of composer Olivier Messiaen and his legacy. The author discusses the theme of the relationship between music and modernity. She describes Messiaen's musical and religious modernism. She also criticizes the musical meta-narrative of Gilles Deleuze and discusses the way in which Messiaen's theological critique of musical modernisms demands elements of the postmodern.
