The author provides tips on choosing bond funds. He recommends bond funds with low management expense ratios (MERS) of one percent or less to investors because of their lower returns compared with equity investments. He explains that investors may need at least half a million dollars to secure proper diversification of laddered bonds. He cites the importance of having an investment portfolio that is well-balanced between fixed-income and equity funds in order to achieve optimum performance.
