- Authors
Confino, Alon
- Abstract
This essay examines the concepts of home and exile as depicted in the autobiographies of intellectuals Edward Said and George Steiner. The views of Said and Steiner on intellectual activity and work are discussed. An account of the life of Said from 1935 as depicted in his work "Out of Place" is presented. The link between the text and the intellectual based on the reflections of Steiner is explored. The essay also covers the manner in which both memoirs describe the connection between the subjective experience of exile and the intellectual self.
