- Title
Critical mass.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the Japanese government's lack of independent scientific advice following the Fukushima disaster in 2011. The author argues that a scientific voice that would advise the government, such as a chief scientist, could have helped during the crisis. The author says that the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency and the Nuclear Safety Commission were not an effective source of quick decisions on decontamination or health risks.
