- Abstract
The present study aimed to correlate sociodemographic conditions with sleep quality in people aged 60 years or over. This is an experimental clinical study with a quantitative approach, where 35 elderly people of both sexes, aged over 60 years, were selected from the Center for the Study of Aging at the Federal University of São Paulo. The Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (AGA) was used to obtain information on socio-economic and health aspects. The elderly were submitted to physical examination, laboratory tests and polysomnography to know the quality of sleep. The analysis was done using SPSS Software, version 18.0. The average income of the studied population was high compared to the general average of the population. Age was relevant for sleep efficiency, as income had a negative effect on latency time for REM sleep and REM sleep time. Concludes the results showed that the elderly of the sample present better living conditions with monthly income of approximately 7 minimum wages which reflect in sleep quality.
