- Abstract
In this work, the public-private dichotomy is recovered to rethink it in relation to the field of knowledge. The article is organized as follows. It is considered in the first place the emergence of modern science, associated with the idea of common property and making public the findings and procedures. Subsequently, the multiple operations that, in the context of the capitalist system, hide this character and privatize knowledge through the granting of Intellectual Property Rights. The third section recovers the role that States have had in the generation and publication of knowledge and finally the paper recovers the common goods of knowledge approach. The underlying idea is that there is an unresolved tension around the public-private character of knowledge.
