- Abstract
The Arab-Islamic architecture preserved the Islamic style for long periods, and it was characterized by unity, diversity and development, was associated with the idea of constant and variable, making it a dynamic and continuous architecture in modernization and keeping pace with all these characteristics that Islamic architecture aesthetical dimensions with a symbolic function and intellectual dimensions with a cognitive function and historical dimensions from this we conclude that the Arab Islamic architecture had various orientations and schools, it constitute the link between the past and the present of Arab Islamic culture. This research deals with the architectural values and characteristics in Islamic architecture, as toning in the architectural formation constituted one of the clear values that appear in the expression of the facades in Islamic architecture in addition to the diversity of construction methods and orientation inward with the integration of spaces and geometric formations that was and still constitute an important element in Islamic architecture. The religious values and principles in Islam had influenced on the content and form of the Islamic architecture dwelling that resulting from the values and principles stemmed from the teachings of the Islamic religion that have greatly influenced on the internal and external physical elements that compose the sensory content in the Islamic dwelling and the main problems of its architectural elements. The reciprocal relationship between content and form is considered one of the important vital issues in architecture. And it is reflected on the formation of the structure that includes the human or Muslim community. Which expressed the residents' real desire to direct all their life affairs inward in line with the principles of the Islamic religion. There are several main reasons behind the deterioration of content and form in contemporary housing architecture and in contemporary architecture in general, and these reasons are almost similar in most Arab and Islamic countries, this deterioration.
