Boost to Mandarin teaching in schools.
- Abstract
The article reports that British Chancellor George Osborne announced during a 5-day visit in China in September 2015 that a 10 million pound investment would be made to allow more British children to learn Mandarin at school. Topics include the aim to have an additional 5,000 students learning Mandarin by 2020. Also mentioned are Christine Blower, general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, raising the issue of recruiting language teachers as well as the problem of teacher supply.
