- Abstract
The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to evaluate the effect of preoperative optimization of pelvic floor contraction and increased pelvic floor muscle contraction on the outcome after pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery. A single examination during which women received instructions on how to perform a proper pelvic floor muscle contraction is probably insufficient to induce changes in pelvic floor contraction 6 months after surgery. In a previous study, we assessed the reliability of ultrasound for measurement of pelvic floor muscle contraction and its correlation with vaginal palpation[4].
