- Title
Parks, Parties, and Pragmatism: Time and Setting in James T. Farrell's Major Novels.
- Authors
Butler, Robert James
- Abstract
The article analyzes how James T. Farrell united his major novels through the concept of time and the use of two symbolic settings which help him to dramatize this central theme. It revealed that Farrell's enormous output as a writer is grounded in a wide range of serious scholarship as well as deeply felt personal experiences. It argued persuasively that Farrell's major writings reflect a philosophical sophistication and aesthetic control for which he is rarely given proper credit.
