- Title
Practical guide for epidermolysis bullosa management in the first 4 weeks of life.
- Abstract
This article, published in the British Journal of Dermatology, provides a practical guide for managing epidermolysis bullosa (EB) in the first 4 weeks of life. EB is a rare genetic condition that affects around 500,000 people worldwide and causes fragile skin and potential internal organ involvement. The article emphasizes the importance of early specialist management for improved outcomes and highlights the challenges healthcare professionals face in managing newborns with EB. The authors conducted a literature search and reviewed 43 specific papers on neonatal EB care, as well as clinical practice guidelines and hospital protocols, to compile recommendations for diagnosis, medical monitoring, wound care, pain management, feeding, and daily care. They strongly recommend a team approach provided by experts in EB for optimal care.
