- Abstract
The article discusses the effect of flow trigger on Rapid Shallow Breathing Index (RSBI) which is used for assessing readiness for weaning from mechanical ventilation. Topics discussed include calculation of RSBI through the values of minute ventilation and respiratory rate, use of modern ventilators in the flow trigger mode to reduce RSBI measurement, and decrease in the work of patient breathing with the availability of small amount of pressure via base flow in the flow trigger mode.
