- Abstract
Present study was undertaken to evaluate the infestation of Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) an important storage pest of rice under bag storage condition. Rough rice of 12 genotypes were screened by no choice method. Genotypes were assessed on the basis of number of eggs laid by female and further F1 progeny that emerged from these. The weight loss of infested samples and the degree of susceptibility were observed. The results revealed that the wild rice accessions Oryza nivara, O. rufipogon and one cultivated variety, ADT(R) 46 were resistant; while KN 3, PRH 10 and PB 1 were found susceptible. The correlation between R. dominica developmental features to physiochemical traits of genotypes were observed to be inversely and highly significant with surface wax, total phenol and total hull %; and positively significant with ash, carbohydrate and fat contents, respectively. None of the rice genotype was completely immune, implying that the rough rice with high surface wax and phenol content with hull characteristics offer potential against R. dominica infestation.
