- Authors
Banks, Richard C.
- Abstract
The article presents information on the use of reflective plate glass in building construction, that act hazardous to migrant birds. It involves placing large mirror-like surfaces perpendicular to the earth, that acts as fatal illusion to birds. An analysis of recent information suggests that as many as 1.25 million birds a year die by colliding with lighthouses, tall buildings, and television broadcasting towers in the U.S. It talks about the death of migrating birds surrounding the John S. Lehmann Building of the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, Missouri and other man-made structures. According to corporate advertisements in national magazines, the use of reflective plate glass in construction, lowers the cost and energy consumption.
