- Abstract
The article provides information on American judge Albion Winegar TourgÉe's parental help to young former slave girl Adaline Pattillo. It informs that TourgÉe legally adopted the girl as his daughter and took the responsibility of her education. Further, it informs that Pattillo was his inspiration in writing the novel "Toinette: A Tale of Transition" which was published by TourgÉe under the pseudonym Henry Churton, revised as "A Royal Gentleman" under his real name.
