- Abstract
This article examines the governance leadership of Adventist not-for-profit healthcare organizations in the United States, with broader implications. It compares the Canadian and American healthcare systems and discusses the role of governance in these systems. The article explores the responsibilities and challenges faced by NFP healthcare boards, as well as best practices for effective governance. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining the mission and values of faith-based organizations despite financial pressures and societal influences. Effective board communication, mission alignment, transparency, compliance, and financial prudency are highlighted as crucial aspects of board governance. The article concludes by emphasizing the responsibility of NFP healthcare boards to uphold the organization's mission and spread Christ's love.
