- Abstract
An editorial is presented concerning the development of trauma systems in U.S. in the year 1970 which were modeled on mobile army surgical hospital (MASH) units. Topics discussed include funding and fractured support from the federal government of U.S. for trauma research outside of military medicine; effects of trauma on every organ system in the body; and role of U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) by shoehorning trauma research into a variety of institutes and centers.
