- Abstract
The construction of three dimensional models of carbon nanostructures like fullerene (C60) was achieved with the assembly of origami made modules. The primary module represents the carbon atom and its three links, which shares with its neighbor atoms. It was possible to construct models in which nanotubes show how the network hexagons vary resulting in a zigzag, chair and chiral nanotubes. In general, three types of single-layer nanotubes are distinguished according to their helicity: "armchair", zigzag and chiral. It can be considered that the armchair and zigzag nanotubes are straight while the chiral nanotubes nanotubes are twisted. Building of nanotube models and subsequent simulation using the m and n chiral vectors provides a visual tool for understanding the electronic properties and the potential of nanotubes.
