- Abstract
Analyzing various documents from the Mexican colonial period, information that shows the long process that went into physics teaching, that emerged from Scientific Revolution and finally took root in Mexico, is presented. It is shown that the first text written and published about physics in the Americas was printed in the capital of New Spain in the sixteenth century. Trough the identification of the books in this discipline coming to New Spain, it is discussed why and how the new Spaniards studied this science, as well as the place where physics education finally was institutionalized, in both its theoretical and experimental aspects.
