- Title
The Place of High Rake Mine in the Peak District Orefield.
- Authors
Barnatt, John
- Abstract
The article examines metal mines in the area of England's Peak District Orefield that the author has deemed similar to the High Rake Mine operated by entrepreneur and mine manager William Wyatt in the mid-19th century. The author notes difficulties in mining in the area due to a lack of actual miners in the Peak region. The majority of mines in the area were financial failures, including Magpie, Ecton, and Watergrove. Deep mining technology in the region is discussed, including the use of steam powered pumping engines, waterwheels, and hydraulic engines. The author concludes by emphasizing the importance of conserving the High Rake lead vein.
