- Abstract
The article reports on the use of climate-based forecasts in the selection of crop insurance coverage. Insurance contracts offered by the government's program rely on short-term yield history in the computation of premium rates and lack long-term climate forecasting data. The El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) has been shown to be a consistent atmospheric phenomenon and affects weather patterns. The article aims to examine the effects of ENSO on crop yields of cotton, corn, and peanut in the Southeastern United States. An overview of the report is provided.
