- Abstract
In order to minimize the total active power loss and improve the voltage profile of the power system, several solutions have been proposed, including the integration of Distributed Generation (DG) in the radial distribution network. The location and size of DG are important, because a wrong choice has a negative impact on the system behavior. Several researchers have used many methods for solving this difficult combinatorial problem. This paper proposes an algorithm for Firefly (FA) which is a meta-heuristic algorithm inspired by the behavior of fireflies flashing. The main objective of firefly flash is to act as a signaling system to attract other fireflies. In this paper, IEEE 69-bus and IEEE 33-bus distribution test systems are used to show the effectiveness of the FA. Comparison with genetic algorithm (GA) for IEEE 69-bus and Shuffled Frog Leaping Algorithm (SFLA) for IEEE 33-bus are also given.
