- Abstract
The article looks at the experience of a British Columbian man, Harry Ralston, during his World War I military service in Europe through an examination of his wartime letters to his future wife, Gertrude Walker, as well as some of her letters to him. Topics include the nature of letters as historical documents, the author's discovery of the archived letters at the University of British Columbia Special Collections department, and how the war experience changed Ralston's and Walker's lives.
