- Title
Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco - Europe Debate: Nicotine Use is Hardly Rational.
- Authors
Bar-Zeev, Yael; Shahab, Lion
- Abstract
The article explores the rationality of nicotine use, particularly in the context of smoking. It challenges the notion that smoking is an informed choice, highlighting studies that show youth smoking initiation is often influenced by social factors and emotions rather than rational decision-making. The article also examines reasons for quitting smoking and discusses the potential risks and benefits of nicotine use. It concludes that, considering the negative effects on physical and mental well-being and the lack of significant benefits, nicotine use is not a rational choice for most individuals. The authors argue against the motion that nicotine use is rational.
