- Abstract
Although the tendency to separate women photographers from their male counterparts does not always provide a better understanding of their contributions and historical significance, there are periods and instances in which women themselves call attention to their gender The women photographers we know best, those who enable us to navigate through the medium’s history, leave a valuable record of the world from a woman’s perspective; through this work, we glimpse pictures of their daily lives and occupations, their children and political causes, their lovers and gardens, and even portraits of themselves.
