- Abstract
The article discusses a study which investigated the regulation of the maturation of both excitatory and inhibitory synapses within the visual cortex, which determines the proper functioning of the visual system. An immunohistochemical method was developed by the researchers that was used on transgenic mice expressing yellow fluorescence protein (YFP) in a subset of neurons. It was found that dark-reared mice have reduced number of somatic GAD65-puncta on individual layer 2/3 pyramidsal neurons.
