- Authors
Brugha, Ruair
- Abstract
The article reports that the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was launched in January 2002. As a new mechanism to channel additional funds towards the control of these diseases, its achievement over a short period has been remarkable. The Global Fund is just one of several mechanisms for channeling money to disease control in developing countries. Based on assessments of the Global Fund's performance in its first 3 years and donor perceptions of its relative advantages over other aid instruments, commitments from donors may secure it a substantial role in financing disease control over the medium to long term.
