- Abstract
This article, published in the Florida Field Naturalist in 2024, explores the arthropod associates of the Gray Catbird on Vaca Key, Florida. The Gray Catbird is a widely distributed bird species in North America that overwinters in Central America, Florida, and the Caribbean. The article focuses on the arthropods found on a deceased Gray Catbird, including lice and mites. The lice species identified are likely associated with other bird species in the Mimidae family, while the mites include feather mites and a nasal mite, some of which are specific to the Gray Catbird. The collected specimens were deposited into museum collections for further examination. The text also mentions the presence of a rhinonyssid species, Ptilonyssus euroturdi, in Catbirds in different locations, although the exact identification of the specimen is uncertain. The article concludes with acknowledgments to individuals who identified the lice and mites mentioned, and a list of cited literature related to bird parasites.
