- Abstract
The book "International Law and Posthuman Theory" edited by Matilda Arvidsson and Emily Jones offers a unique perspective on international law by incorporating posthuman theory. The book challenges traditional assumptions in international law and explores new ontological, epistemological, and ethical foundations that are not centered on the liberal humanist subject. Divided into three parts, the book covers methodological, historical, and environmental themes, drawing on various disciplines such as philosophy, anthropology, and geography. The collection aims to advance more inclusive and less violent global legal arrangements and emphasizes intersectionality, ecological concerns, and global power relations. While the book focuses on international law, it also raises questions about social movements, grassroots activism, and the need to center epistemologies from the Global South. Overall, "International Law and Posthuman Theory" breaks new ground in critical legal scholarship and offers possibilities for future research in redefining key principles and reconfiguring global trade, investment law, and human rights institutions from a posthuman perspective.
