- Abstract
The article highlights the study of model competition involving newspapers of different circulation sizes in metropolitan areas in the U.S. Such model competition was developed in 1970's by James N. Rosses, economics professor at the University of Stanford. It aims to recognize the emerging sort of competition substitutes for the more traditional direct competition found in the markets. Meanwhile, the importance of competition is its role in the fostering the marketplace with ideas. It has found out that competition has its own place in the market and gives the marketplace a functioning democracy. On the other hand, several other studies have found out that competition offers benefits and effects on competitions.
