- Abstract
The article presents a commentary on a report that was published in a previous issue titled "Alternative methods to safety studies in experimental animals: role in the risk assessment of chemicals under the new European Chemicals Legislation (REACH)," by W. Lilienblum et al. The goal of the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) program is to evaluate the risk of human exposure to chemicals and provide alternatives to animal testing. The article presents the author's opinions on in vitro tests and the Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TCC) approach.
