- Abstract
The article presents an analysis of the three largest work stoppages in the U.S. in 2012. The Chicago Public School District 299 in Illinois reported the largest work stoppage that began in 2012 after 26,500 members of the Chicago Teachers Union walked out of their classrooms from September 10 to 18, 2012. The strike launched by production and maintenance employees of the International Association of Machinists Local 776 against the Lockheed Martin Corp. was the second largest work stoppage in 2012. The third-largest work stoppage involved a lockout of the employees of Consolidated Edison Co. of New York against 8,000 members of the Utility Workers of America Local 1-2.
