- Abstract
The increasing importance and prevalence of the concept of artificial intelligence leads to questioning its place in the field of law. Because artificial intelligence has gained a place in society as beings with human characteristics and full or semi-autonomy. As a result, the need to determine the legal status of these assets has emerged. Important and intriguing views have been put forward in the doctrine regarding the legal status of artificial intelligence. One of these is the view that artificial intelligence has an electronic personality. The basis of this view is the idea that there is a new type of electronic personality other than real and legal persons. Apart from this view, there is another view that characterizes artificial intelligence as a person; however, it is argued that this personality is a legal entity. There is also an opinion that accepts the legal status of artificial intelligence as a non-human person. Some views argue that artificial intelligence can never be considered a person and accept artificial intelligence as a thing. Some authors even argue that if artificial intelligence has an intangible nature, it would be appropriate to accept it as an intellectual work under some conditions. In our study, firstly the concept of artificial intelligence and its types are discussed; Afterwards, the opinions put forward in the doctrine regarding the legal status of artificial intelligence will be put forward. As a result of evaluating the opinions, it will be stated which status would be more legally appropriate to adopt in terms of artificial intelligence.
