- Abstract
The article discusses the contributions of women to the practice of medicine during the 17th century when their official role to the profession was considerably restricted. Topics discussed include the high volume of surviving manuscript recipe collections authored by women, evidence that women's domestic medicine had a familial and collaborative nature, and the involvement of several social classes in the circulation of recipes.
