- Abstract
The article discusses legal rights of formal and non-formal parents related to visitation and custody of a child. It also describes ways in which functional parenthood has served to compliment and reinforce child-care provided by formal parents and discusses diversity and flexibility in parent-child relationships. It further explores differences between formal and functional parenthood along with its advantages and disadvantages.
