- Abstract
The reaction of hydrazine vapor with surface carbonyl groups was used for the quantitative determination of functional groups of organic polymers. The specific features of this reaction were studied using poly(vinyl methyl ketone) as an example. It was shown by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy that the main reaction product at the initial stage is hydrazinecarbinol, which is then consecutively converted to hydrazone and azine. The results of calculations predict that virtually the only reaction product is azine. It was shown that the wrong identification of the reaction product has lead to the distortion of the results of analysis.
