- Abstract
The article examines the characteristics of agricultural and rural development in Romania under the dictatorship of Romanian leader Nicolae Ceausescu from 1965-1989. Topics include a background on how Ceausescu came to power after the death of Communist leader Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej in March 1965, a description of Ceausescu's rural planning campaign called systematization and its objectives to introduce more land into the agricultural circuit and eliminate peasants' independence.
