- Authors
Mitka, Mike
- Abstract
The article reports on a recommendation by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) that primary care clinicians provide interventions for preventing tobacco use among school-aged children and teenagers, such as education or brief counseling. Tobacco use has been identified as the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. Factors behind smoking initiation among children and teenagers include parental smoking and parental nicotine dependence and easy access to cigarettes.
