The architecture of the Forty-Eight.
- Authors
Bradley-Fulgoni, Peter
- Abstract
The article looks at the architecture of Johann Sebastian Bach's Forty-Eight or "Das Wolhtemperierte Klavier," which is made up of 48 pairs of pieces, with each pair composed of a prelude followed by a fugue. It is pointed out that Bach did not just write the Forty-Eight for more extensive keyboard just to demonstrate the Pythagorean comma but to express the need for a musical instrument with a more extensive keyboard compass for it.
