- Title
Why Ex-Gay Therapy Doesn't Work.
- Authors
Parelli, Stephen
- Abstract
This essay presents an account of the author's experiences in ex-gay therapy. The author was a Baptist pastor and found that the ex-gay movement was eager to embrace him and encouraged him in his therapy. He became active in the movement, but after years of therapy and meetings, he questioned whether there is anyone who is really ex-gay. The evangelical ex-gay movement hopes to save people from their homosexual urges and seeks to lead them into lives of celibacy. The movement tended to rely on traditional gender norms in its therapies.
