- Title
On Being Out as a College President.
- Authors
Hexter, Ralph J.
- Abstract
The author reflects on being a gay college president. He talks about arriving to the president's house at Hampshire College with his long-term partner. He mentions that there are only a small number of gay or lesbian college and university presidents in the United States. He also mentions a study by Kirk Snyder, a lecturer for the Center for Management Communications at the University of Southern California. The study, on which Snyder's book "The G Quotient: Why Gay Executives are Excelling as Leaders...and What Every Manager Needs to Know" is based, found that employees of gay managers were more satisfied with their jobs than other employees. He discusses the importance of being in a work situation that supports inclusion and equality.
