Surgical Correction of Crop Fistula in Baby Pigeons.

- Abstract
Sixteen baby pigeons were reported with complaint of food grains draining through open wound on lower cervical oesophageal and chest region. All the cases were operated for correction of crop fistula under ketamine (@ 50 mg/kg) and diazepam (5 mg/kg) anaesthesia. The crop was sutured with (5-0) polyglycolic acid suture in single row continuous pattern and skin was sutured separately with nylon (4-0). Post operatively the birds were treated with i/v isotonic saline solution, lnj. Clavulanic acid potentiated amoxycillin @ 150 mg/kg l/m repeated every 24 hours, Inj. Carprofen @ 5 mg/kg once daily for 2 days and daily dressings with Povidone ointment. Fourteen baby pigeons recovered successfully however, two birds died post surgically. All the recovered birds were discharged on 20th day from hospital.
