- Title
The Battleground of Translation: Making Equal in a Global Structure of Inequality.
- Authors
Liu, Lydia H.
- Abstract
In this interview, Lydia Liu reflects back on how her theoretical work on translation has evolved since the publication of Translingual Practices in 1995. She questions our flawed assumptions about the translatable versus untranslatable in translation studies and urges us to scrutinize the logic of equivalency that drives such assumptions: How does the logic of equivalency simultaneously enable and conceal the global structure of inequality in the act of “making equal” through the practices of translation? How does translation make history? Can we identify discursive traditions that make a certain concept of translation legible while occluding other possibilities?
