- Abstract
The article explores the acknowledgment of the Tractarian doctrine of reserve by English author Elizabeth Missing Sewell. Topics discussed include the criticisms earned by the literary didacticism of Sewell, the development of her Tractarian views particularly after meeting notable Tractarians such as John Keble, John Henry Newman, and Isaac Williams, and the problems associated with the lack of reserve depicted in her autobiographical novel "The Experience of Life."
