The author discusses the exhibitions of Native Americans in human zoos in the 19th century. He mentions the museum established in the final months of the life of the last Beothuk Indian in Newfoundland, the artist George Catlin's exhibitions of Ojibwa Indians, and the death of many of the exhibited Native Americans, fulfilling the image of the "dying Indian."
