The article discusses the developments with the discovery of gold in California in the nineteenth century along with the migration of miners to California. Topics discussed include opportunities for investors to invest in mining enterprises, Benjamin Davidson, agent of financial advisory group Rothschild sent by the firm to California who worked in partnership with businessman Heinrich Schliemann and an essay in the journal about the stresses and strains in the partnership.
