- Abstract
The article discusses American philosopher Peter H. Hare's claim that philosopher William James was a natural realist and a phenomenalist. The author argues that James was a radical empiricist and that Hare translated James' vocabulary into his own discourse. He explains that this changed the meaning of James' words. The author looks at Hare's definitions of phenomenalism and realism. The way James appropriates a phenomenalist vocabulary is examined. The author details the requirements for one being a natural realist.
