- Abstract
Bite-type classification is an extended Angle classification of sagittal malocclusions that includes the molar and incisor teeth in all assessments. The bite-type method has been utilized successfully for more than 25 years at the Orthodontic Department of the University of Giessen in Germany. The procedure uses a number of sagittal incisor relationship (overjet) appraisals in addition to three types of sagittal molar relationships (Classes I, II, and III). Class I can be combined with five overjet assessments, while Class II and Class III can each be combined with three. Compared with the Angle method, the bite-type classification is more precise and detailed and thus serves as an improved communication tool.
