- Title
When integrins fail to integrate.
- Authors
Hidalgo, Andrés; Frenette, Paul S.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the effects when integrins are inactivated due to several naturally occurring mutations. It notes that integrins can rapidly make blood cells and ensure normal blood flow. It states that integrins mediate rapid formation of a platelet plug after vessel injury. However, when integrins are inactivated, it can lead to Glanzmann's thrombasthenia, characterized by continuous bleeding. Moreover, the causes to leukocyte adhesion deficiency III (LAD-III) are discussed.
